Hello Kitty Sewing Machines Quality or for Play?

Love Hello Kitty? Love sewing? Well, you can combine something you love with something you love doing with the cuteness of a Hello Kitty sewing machine. Whether you are looking for a Hello Kitty sewing machine as a gift for your daughter or you want a machine with some more pop and pizzazz than most all white machines.

One of the cutest things on the market to me right now are Hello Kitty sewing machines. I have a six year old daughter who can’t wait to have her own machine one day. She has specifically requested a Hello Kitty sewing machine and I will likely buy one for her when the time is right.

Are Hello Kitty Sewing Machines Just for Kids?

The answer to this is no. Through researching these machines I’ve learned that they are actually well built sewing machines with a lot of the same features as other Janome machines. Although a Hello Kitty branded machine is a good option among some of the best sewing machines for kids because they are adorably cute, they aren’t toy machines and are not solely meant for young enthusiasts.

Janome is a Japanese company that has been around for over 60 years. They make the reliable and easy to use sewing machines and their electronics, including circuit boards and display panels are said by many to be the most reliable.

This particular Hello Kitty sewing machine is a mechanical sewing machine. You choose one of 12 stitches with the spin of a dial.

At 12 lbs. it is lightweight and very portable, making it perfect to travel or for pulling out for a quick repair, and for young beginners.

One downside of this machine is that there is no speed control. You either sew at the regular speed or you stop.

For some, you may want the extra control that comes with a variable speed machine (see the other models below for this) because it helps to have better control otherwise you might not be sewing where you want to sew.

And the biggest plus of this machine? It’s absolutely adorable. I wish all sewing machines were this bright, cheery color.

Janome 15822 Hello Kitty Sewing Machine with 24 built in stitches and a one-step buttonhole

Here’s another super cute Hello Kitty machine from Janome. This would be the next step up in terms of price and features.

This is also a mechanical sewing machine and it offers 22 stretch and utility stitches and 1 one-step buttonhole.

Other conveniences of this machine are a a built-in needle threader and slip on presser feet.

It also has a free arm for easy sewing in tight spaces.

This machine is great as a gift for a daughter or granddaughter, but it is also a high quality sewing machine that anyone can use for all types of sewing projects.

Janome 18750 Hello Kitty Computerized Sewing Machine

Don’t let the cute graphics fool you. This is a full scale sewing machine that can handle all of your sewing needs.

This is a computerized sewing machine (as opposed to the two mechanical machines mentioned above), so t has a backlit LCD display. You chosoe your stitch with the touch of the button.

Other features of this machine:

Built-in needle threader, which makes threading your easy something you can do in under 10 seconds.
Speed control slider to have better control while you work on your projects (You also have the option of using a foot pedal to control the speed).
Automatic one-step buttonhole.
Front load bobbin (read here to understand the difference between a drop-in bobbin and a front load bobbin)

Of the three machines, listed here this is the most expensive, but it is also the only computerized machine.

Hello Kitty Sewing Machines Are Not Just Toys

Overall, these machines are quality machines with tons of features. Depending on your budget, each one of these machines would suit you well to take care of all the sewing projects you typically need. It is also a beautiful device that is sure to catch anyone’s attention when they see it sitting on your sewing table.
